Vice Rector for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Awad Kh. Al-Asmari visits the University of California – Irvine (UCI).

Jun. 29, 2012 – Vice Rector for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Awad Kh. Al-Asmari visited the University of California – Irvine (UCI) to kickoff the inaugural summer training program in summer 2012.

On arrival, Dr. Al-Asmari visited the Saudi consulate in Los Angeles, where he met with the Saudi Consul General, Dr. Abdullah Al-Harthi to update him on the collaboration between the two universities.

He began his visit to the University (UCI) by holding a meeting with Dr. Gregory Washington, Dean of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UCI to discuss the cooperative relationship between the Schools of Engineering in both universities and means to further develop the collaboration. Vice Rector Dr. Al-Alasmari then met with the Chairs of the different Engineering Departments at UCI participating in this program, as well as the management and staff of the international program. The focus of the meeting was to discuss the current level of cooperation between the two universities and means to further develop the relation.

Vice Rector Al-Asmari was then escorted on a guided tour of the laboratories and facilities of the School of Engineering with its various Departments (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering), with a discussion of how these facilities will be used to serve the program.

Dr. Al-Asmari then met with Dr. Ahmed Eltawil and Dr Fadi Kurdahi, the directors of the international program with SAU, to discuss the level of existing cooperation under the current agreement, and the possibility of renewal for another three years.

Dr. Al-Asmari then held a meeting with students from Salman bin AbdulAziz University on scholarships for summer training at the University of California – Irvine. During the meeting, he listened to their needs and their conditions, and gave them some tips on how to represent their University through excellence in education and research.

Finally, Dr Al-Asmari attended a reception held in honor of the inaugural run of the program where Dean Gregory Washington presented him with an honorary certificate of appreciation to acknowledge his leadership role in establishing this international collaboration.
